Assent-Based Applied Behaviour Analysis and Play Therapies
Assent-Based Applied Behaviour Analysis Therapy is one that allows children on the Autism Spectrum to have a voice in the way their ABA therapy is conducted. Our staff is trained to honour when a child withdraws their assent by saying or showing that they don’t want to engage in a therapy program. This ensures continued trust between the child and service provider, which creates a positive and safe environment for everyone, and increases a child’s willingness and eagerness to engage. If a child withdraws their assent or approval to participate in something, we, as a staff, look at the program itself and how we are presenting the program, and modify things accordingly.
